Ridgeland MS offers convenience and vitality found in a larger city but retains a small town, “down home” atmosphere. It developed a 10-mile trail system winding from the east of town at the Overlook shore on the Ross Barnett Reservoir through Ridgeland’s quaint downtown area and on to the Renaissance at Colony Park shopping. City leaders made sure the trail also has access to the Natchez Trace. Bicyclists, joggers, and dog walkers utilize these trails throughout the year.
On Rice Road near the Natchez Trace and Reservoir is the Mississippi Crafts Center. Talented local and statewide artists and members of the Craftsman Guild display and sell beautiful pieces of pottery, wood carvings, soaps, jewelry, and other art. Ridgeland benefits from two major shopping malls. On Ridgeland’s southeast side and just cross the county line from
Northeast Jackson, there is the Northpark Mall. Northpark has been the mall residents have counted on since the early 1980’s. The newer Renaissance outdoor mall west of I-55 has also become extremely popular with its upscale shopping, theatre, and restaurants.
Ridgeland takes pride in their public schools - kindergarten through High School and beyond. It is home to Holmes Community College. Ridgeland is also very supportive of private their schools, Christ Covenant Private School and St Andrews Episcopal School.
The City of Ridgeland Parks and Recreation partners with Madison Parks and Recreation to offer a wide variety of sport leagues for ages 3 through 18. Baseball, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Basketball, Football, and Lacrosse. Families and residents enjoy access to several parks, a tennis center, and a frisbee disc course.
Ridgeland is also home to some events that have become local traditions for so many families. The very popular and favorite annual concert, Pepsi Pops, is held each May at Old Trace Park in Ridgeland “on the Rez”. Pepsi Pops is a fabulous outdoor performance by the Mississippi Symphony. Families from Ridgeland and neighboring cities bring blankets and picnics for an “under the stars” night of musical pleasure. Father’s Day is in June and so is the annual Father & Child fishing tournament off the banks of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Each Independence on Day on July 4th, Ridgeland Parks and Recreation hosts the Balloon Glow. More than 20 balloons lit up at sunset it quite the site, followed by fireworks. This dazzling Balloon Glow, fireworks, live music, and food has been loads of fun for more than 25 years!
The Jackson Yacht Club is on the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Ridgeland. Boating and fishing enthusiasts enjoy the friendship and food around their hobbies of boating and fishing. The facilities overlooking the water area favorite venue for parties and weddings.
